Teamsters Local 30 Members at Matheson Gas in Greensburg PA win Strike against company!

Members of Teamsters Local 30 employed by Matheson Gas in Greensburg PA voted to strike after negotiations broke down in late August. 

Teamsters hit the picket line for a ULP strike at midnight on August 27th when the company refused to bargain in good faith. 

Striking workers wasted no time in showing the company that this strike wasn't a game. The sanitation department stood in solidarity with the workers and refused to collect the trash until the strike was over. Then the members held the line when the first filler tanker pulled up to the line. The driver refused to cross, even with management attempting to get him to turn in to the property.

Soon after, Locals 110, 491, and 697 showed solidarity with the members of Local 30 by allowing Local 30 to extend the picket line. 

Teamster officers and members from Locals in Western PA joined the members on the picket line throughout the course of the 21-day strike. 

The strike was made easier due to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters special strike benefit.

The company called for a meeting, attempted to dangle a carrot, and withdrew a supposal at the initial meeting. Realizing that the workers were prepared to hold the line, the company finally agreed to a contract the negotiating team would endorse. 

The contract, with increased wages and improved benefits, was ratified Sept 16.

Teamsters Local 30 Business Agent Art Hoak said "These guys did a great job. They stuck together and showed this company that they won't be pushed around. I respect the hell out of them."

Local 30 would like to give a special shout-out to Matheson Teamsters Johnny Higgins and Nick Skwara, who went above and beyond during the entirety of negotiations and the strike. As well as a shout-out to ALL the members who work at Matheson.
